Itap lecture 6

Interpretation

Every element of design can mean something different to every single person viewing it. People with no creative influences will look at a piece of art differently to a artist or designer. The designer might try to use certain visual devices to amplify the intended message. They might could use colour, layout or interesting type.

When I see this design I think its a visually interesting piece but to other people it might look a mess or too busy. The use of colour in this piece makes it stand out more than if it was a few basic colours.

Testing

When we design a piece we truly cannot know if it has done its job unless we get feedback from the
audience.

This advertising campaign from the NHS is informing men who drink alcohol on the health dangers and the weight gain that might occur when doing so. The designer would never really know if the campaign has done its job unless interviews are done to gather that information.

When I design something before I have took it to the finished piece I would sometimes do a questionnaire to get a feel for the target audience. I would also get feedback form my peers to see if the design works well and the message successfully gets through.
